The M.S. program is a 2-year program consisting of 36 hours of courses. Comprehensive exams in three subject areas is required, along with either an approved interdisciplinary course or a research experience (graduate project in the final semester of study).

Admissions
GRE requirement General
Additional information Our program is meant to be an option for students who are interested in graduate study, particularly in applied mathematics, who are unsure about going directly to a Ph.D. program. A bachelor's degree in mathematics is recommended but not required provided the applicant took appropriate undergraduate courses in mathematics, including at a minimum three semesters of calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations.

Comments regarding financial support All graduate assistantships come with a tuition waiver, where the student pays $25 in tuition per semester, plus student fees. Graduate assistantships require a 20 hour per week work commitment to the department. First-year students typically work in the department's tutoring lab and assist faculty members with the teaching of a course (grading or meeting a once weekly session of a precalculus review course). Well qualified second-year students may be selected to teach their own courses. Larger stipends are paid to second-year students selected to teach.
Comments regarding outcomes students are preparing for, and how successful have they been The nature and breadth of the curriculum allows students to enter jobs in industry or to enter Ph.D. programs in Applied Mathematics.
